Our Discipleship Groups are geared towards bringing together Confirmed Juniors and Seniors in high school. Our groups are gender-specific and meet once a week for an hour and thirty minutes with two trained adult Core members. Each group is made up of 8-10 members to help our teens experience what a close-knit Christian community is like. At each Discipleship Group Meeting, they will dive into Scripture, learn, and discuss topics such as why and how to pray, moral authority, and how to live out their faith authentically as a follower of Christ!
All Youth Ministry teens will begin the year in the same way with 6 recorded sessions. These six sessions will be presented by Mike Gormley via recorded videos and will address belief in God and the truth of our Catholic faith. They will be asked to complete corresponding questions by December 1. Every one of our teens is being faced with questions about their faith in God and the teachings of the Church, whether it's coming from within themselves or externally from friends and other students. These recorded sessions will help answer the questions they are currently facing. The corresponding questions are to help reflect on each topic and help our upperclassmen teens prepare for their Discipleship Groups in the spring!
Once each of our upperclassman teens register and then submit their Discipleship Group form they will then be placed into gender-specific groups. Discipleship small groups of 8-10 members and will meet online beginning in January. Our ability to meet in person will be determined by whether we have permission from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and if our local health officials deem it is safe for groups of this size to meet in person at that time. The great part about the formating of these Discipleship Groups is that they are adaptable to go from online to in-person group meetings very easily. These groups will be facilitated by trained Core members. Small group meetings will be enhanced with the Discipleship Group Workbook, which is included in the program fee.
Our Discipleship Groups will be officially launching in January due to our need to properly recruit adult Core Members, have them Safe Environment trained, and then have them trained on how to lead a Discipleship Group. If you are interested and available in helping to lead one of our Discipleship Groups, please contact Paige Ingersoll.
