From the very beginning in the Oak Ridge cafeteria, our parish rallied around the youth. Teens formed in faith transformed their families, which attracted more young families. Youth ministry's goal to create lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ was done by making the parish feel like a home away from home. When our ministry got bigger, some of that "second home" atmosphere fell away. Trying to teach in the gym with 500-700 teens proved an impossible challenge. We not creating that "second home" feeling.

This last COVID year made us aware that another path was not only possible, but preferable. So these are the new changes this year (2021-2022) that we are excited to bring to you and your family. We believe it will make for a better ministry environment so that the students can receive the Gospel more effectively.

Announcing "YEAR ONE" and "UpperClass"

YEAR ONE (9th - 11th Grade)

YEAR ONE will meet every Sunday from 4:30-5:45 PM, leading straight up to the Life Teen Mass. This will comprise about 300-350 students, allowing us a lot more flexibility in ministry and will allow us to custom-tailor our weekly messages for the new challenges and difficult situations they encounter. YEAR ONE will still be run as a normal Life Night- large group talks and activities alongside small-group discussion and prayer.

UPPERCLASS (10th - 12th Grade)

UpperClass will meet every Sunday evening from 7:15-8:45 PM, immediately following the Life Teen Mass. UpperClass will be run as a normal Life Night with large and small groups, with talks and activities and games. But by separating out the older grades, we can focus on going much deeper because the foundations for their Catholic faith have already been laid in YEAR ONE and Confirmation.

Every five or six weeks we will bring everyone together- YEAR ONE, UpperClass, and those in Confirmation- for things like Kick-Offs, socials, and special topics. This way, regardless of what ministry your high school student is in, he or she will get to experience the wider Life Teen youth group of our parish. When Summer trips start back up, we will go as one youth group as well.
