Saint Name Project

"Being more closely untied to Christ, those who dwell in heaven fix the whole Church more firmly in holiness...They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us." CCC956

Choosing a Confirmation Patron Saints

As you prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation, you will research the lives of the Saints and then choose a Saint whom you find a common connection with and admire as a role model for our life. Through personal prayers you will develop a spiritual relationship with the Saint you chose and can ask them to intercede (pray for us) from Heaven.

Candidates who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation have two options concerning the choice of Confirmation name:

Option 1: Choose your present, baptismal name (your first name or middle name but only if it is a Saint name). This shows the sacrament’s connection with the other sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church: Baptism and First Eucharist. Choosing your Baptismal name demonstrates that you feel there has been a continual growth in your faith and that you now wish to make this formal through Confirmation.

Option 2: Choose a Saint’s name that symbolizes a new beginning in your faith life and a connection to that particular Saint. If you feel that you have not been particularly strong in your faith and are now making a renewed commitment to your faith, the taking of a new name symbolizes this commitment. This new name would be used after your present middle name and before your family name.
